Johnson & Johnson
The 400+ Billion Dollar Company
That Has Cried Wolf...Twice

Johnson & Johnson (a company worth more than 400+ billion dollars) has cried wolf twice now in attempts to use bankruptcy as an excuse to avoid paying out money to the cancer victims who have filed talcum powder claims.  In their first attempt at filing bankruptcy in 2021, J&J essentially created a new company, LTL Management, to take on the liabilities of the talc lawsuit.  The new company immediately filed for bankruptcy. This first bankruptcy attempt was dismissed by the U.S. appeals court in January of 2023.  Their second bankruptcy attempt was also dismissed in July of 2023, with some plaintiff attorneys claiming the attempt was an abuse of U.S. bankruptcy law.  Both bankruptcy attempts were dismissed by courts for a lack of "financial distress".

Billion dollar Talcum Powder verdicts have been awarded

Several Talcum Powder verdicts have been awarded to plaintiffs including a $4.7 billion dollar verdict in Missouri (later reduced to $2.1 billion), a $26.5 million dollar verdict in California, and the list of verdicts go on and on.  Tens of thousands of women have filed lawsuits, with the majority alleging regular use of Johnson & Johnson’s talc-based baby powder caused their cancer.  Reports have shown that J&J had known for DECADES about the potentially asbestos-contaminated baby powder, yet they kept it hidden from regulators and continued to market and sell their talc-based products to the public.  Johnson & Johnson even claimed their  baby powder was “the purest, smoothest, most absorbent”.

Johnson & Johnson has DISCONTINUED their talc-based baby powder

In 2020, Johnson & Johnson stopped selling talc-based baby powder in the United States and Canada. In 2023, Johnson & Johnson plans to discontinue world-wide sales of talc-based baby powder by switching from talc-based powder to cornstarch-based powder.  While this is a big step to help prevent possible cancers in future generations, the damage has already been done.  Because J&J sold their talc-based baby powder products, which were potentially asbestos-contaminated, for over a CENTURY, the risk of consumers developing cancer in the years to come is a very REAL possibility.  If you qualify for the Talcum Powder lawsuit, you will be joining the thousands before you that have come together to hold J&J responsible.

Safe for our babies, safe for us? WRONG.

The common factor linking Ovarian Cancer to the use of Talcum Powder is ASBESTOS.

Talcum powders, such as Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder, are made from talc, which is a naturally occurring mineral. However, asbestos, which is a known carcinogen, meaning it can cause cancer, is also a naturally occurring mineral that forms in such close proximity to talc in the ground that it is nearly impossible to separate the two.  But what does this mean?

When talc was mined to use for consumer talc products, the asbestos was also mined, and the two could not be separated, resulting in asbestos-contaminated talc.

Consumer talc products include baby powders, cosmetics, and other personal hygiene products. Why is talc in our products? Talc repels water due to its molecular makeup; it can be both hydrophilic and hydrophobic, meaning talc is strongly able to absorb moisture and oil.

One must wonder, what happens inside our bodies if baby powder with asbestos-contaminated talc enters the body either by being inhaled or when applied to the vaginal area?

Women have trusted Johnson & Johnson's baby powder for DECADES using the product on themselves and on their babies because it absorbs moisture, helping keep skin feeling dry and "fresh", while also helping prevent rashes. But are there consequences to feeling "fresh"?

J&J's baby powder sales took place for over 100 years, with ads continually claiming their baby powder was “the purest, smoothest, most absorbent” and “best for baby, best for you”.

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

HUMAN LIVES OVER PROFITS

I want to live in a world where the health of women is more important than cultural beauty standards;  a world where we don't have to question the safety of the beauty products we put on our bodies.

Progress has already been made!  In 2020, Johnson & Johnson stopped selling talc-based baby powder in the United States and Canada.  In 2023, Johnson & Johnson plans to discontinue world-wide sales of talc-based baby powder by switching from talc-based powder to cornstarch-based powder.

In 2023, baby powder made with talcum powder is coming off the shelves ACROSS THE GLOBE!

Our law nurses hope that the continued successful outcomes and verdicts of the Talcum Powder litigation will help elicit significant change. Companies should think twice before creating products that harm women's health.
